Dr. Maria Christodoulou is a leading health and wellness coach with a wide range of knowledge and experience derived from 19 years in integrative healthcare and ongoing health, wellness, leadership and high performance coaching in the private and public sector. Based in Cape Town, Maria is the founder of Genesys Health, a company which offers conscious, creative and innovative approaches to health and wellness for individuals, groups, communities and organisations in South Africa and abroad. She graduated from Stellenbosch University with a medical degree in 1990, spent several years gaining experience in the public sector and then established a successful private practice offering integrative care. During this time she became known for her expertise in the support of people living with cancer and acquired extensive experience in the management of stress-related and chronic and lifestyle diseases. In 2005 she completed a Diploma in Practitioner Coaching at The Coaching Centre (Cape Town) and transitioned from Integrative Medical Practitioner to full-time Health Coach. Maria is a registered member of the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa), the ICF (International Coaching Federation) and COMENSA (Coaches and Mentors of South Africa). She is also a member of faculty at The Coaching Centre and founder member and ex-President of Women for Afrika, an organisation dedicated to the empowerment of women through self-development programmes. In May 2009 Maria was appointed Lecturer in Integrative Medicine by the Division of Family Medicine and Primary Care at the University of Stellenbosch. In this capacity she has been tasked with designing and implementing the first course in Integrative Medicine to be offered by a South African University. The course is unique in its approach in that it will acknowledge the context of South African people and the challenges faced by a healthcare system in a diverse society. She coaches individuals, groups and organisations to help them achieve personal and professional goals, facilitates health, wellness and stress management workshops, acts as supervisor and mentor for coaches and health professionals, and serves as guest speaker at national and international events. She is passionate about the development of people and dedicated to discovering creative ways of living and healing.
