Gopal Ramasammy-Cook (49 years) is passionate about whole-person facilitation and coaching for engagement and positive transformation. He embraces both scientific and creative paradigms in his practice, and has the following academic qualifications: BSc Honours (Rhodes), MSc Biotechnology (WITS), HED (UNISA).
His current interests include personal and organizational development, creative facilitation and coaching, and the science and philosophy of mind. He uses story, metaphor, archetype, co-creative conversation, incisive questions, and other creative devices to ignite meaning-making and accomplish personal and organizational objectives such as engagement, alignment, and change.
In his early years, Gopal was a high school science and biology teacher, and also taught in several educational programmes which addressed the deficiencies of apartheid education. With a strong community interest, he was one of a small group of teachers instrumental in starting the Qhakaza Education Programme under leadership of Dr James Hlongwane in Johannesburg during the mid 1980's when schools in Soweto were in turmoil leaving learners without avenues for furthering their secondary education.
Following a period of recombinant DNA and oncogene research in the CSIR Laboratory for Cellular and Molecular Biology and later in the Haematology department of the WITS medical school, his interest turned to information technology. During his approximately 20 years in the IT industry he served a diversity of client organizations including Renfreight, WITS University, University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria, Metropolitan, Old Mutual, Nedcor, Gauteng Legislature, Gauteng Department of Education, Teba Bank, De Beers, CSIR Mining Technology, Sierra Leone Dept of Education, CCMA, and Readers Digest.
He played technical, management, training, facilitative and mentoring roles culminating in his directorship in Psybergate (Pty) Ltd, a successful software development company. I
