EXECUTIVE OVERVIEW
Leon Winterboer was previously Head of Financial Institutions for the Southern African Region at Royal Bank of Scotland (Previously ABN AMRO), since October 2006 and has been involved in Financial Institutions and Public Finance since 1995. Prior to joining ABN AMRO, he had worked at Barclays, as Head of Financial Institutions for Africa, Middle East and Indian Ocean Islands, and moved across to ABSA Capital subsequent to the acquisition of ABSA by Barclays. He originally started his career at Standard Bank in 1988 where he held various positions in Risk, Public Finance, Project and Structured Finance and Corporate Banking, thereafter joining Citigroup for a six year stint in 1999, where he was made Head of Financial Institutions in 2003. He holds a Bachelors of Commerce from the University of the Free State and an MBA from Manchester Business School. He is a well rounded banker with experience in numerous industries and areas of banking. On 21 September 2009, he was retrenched due to the closure of the RBS Branch in South Africa as part of its global refocus strategy.
