What is the best fit for you?
In terms of the above membership categories and eligibility criteria, the key question for a prospective applicant for COMENSA membership is: What is your main interest in the coaching and/or mentoring fields? -
- Are you practising as an individual coach and/or mentor? If so, join as a Practitioner Member.
- Are you currently registered on a coaching and/or mentoring training programme? If so, you may join as a Student Member, if you can provide proof of formal registration as a student of coaching and/or mentoring.
- Are you running a company which employs coaches and/or mentors to deliver coaching and/or mentoring services? If so, join as a Coaching/Mentoring Company Member, in each Category I (1-5 coaches/mentors), or Category II (6 or more coaches/mentors).
- Are you providing training of coaches and/or mentors? If so, join as a Training Institution Member.
- Are you running a company which buys coaching and/or mentoring services? If so, join as a Corporate Member.
- Are you interested in coaching and/or mentoring, but not providing coaching and/or mentoring services, nor providing training of coaches and/or mentors, nor studying coaching and/or mentoring, and not earning income from coaching and/or mentoring? If so, join as an Affiliate Member.
Membership Terms
COMENSA has adopted anniversary membership terms whereby membership will run for 12 months from the 1st of the month following the date on which a membership application is approved.
All members who were issued with membership certificates later than 30 June 2006 will, in due course, have their membership certificates re-issued, to reflect a full 12-month membership term running from the 1st of the month following the date of issue of their original membership certificates.
The definition of membership eligibility criteria
The training, qualifications, background, etc. of a practising coach and/or mentor are not yet eligibility criteria for COMENSA membership. This has been the explicit policy of COMENSA ever since it was launched in April 2006, in keeping with COMENSA's commitment to inclusivity, in order to make it possible for all providers and users of coaching and/or mentoring to become members.
This will change over time, as COMENSA defines and phases in eligibility criteria for membership based on specified standards of competence and required qualifications, as is provided for in Clause 7.2 of the COMENSA national constitution. The work of defining membership eligibility criteria is being carried out by the Membership Criteria and Standards of Competence Committee under the supervision of COMENSA's Executive Committee.
The phasing-in of membership eligibility criteria over time will provide for professional development paths for all practitioners who do not yet have the types of qualification and/or experience envisaged as the eventual requirement for members as practitioners.
