| Closing South Africa’s democratic deficit South Africa of the new era is often considered to be the victim of an odd and rather bizarrely undefined ailment: a democratic deficit.
South Africa’s inspirations South Africa has not had the best of years. We’ve had power cuts and we’ve had xenophobic attacks. We’ve had all sorts of upheavals and sometimes, in conversation and in our media, one would think that we have nothing still to inspire us.
The innovation "War Room" There are three ways to react to an economic crisis. One way is to bury your head in the sand and hope the whole thing just blows over (good luck!). Another way is to run around in a panic-induced cost-cutting frenzy that could seriously impair your company’s long-term growth potential. It’s a solvency problem, not a liquidity problem The term "credit crunch" is very misleading for the current crisis. It suggests that the problem is merely one of confidence, that calm will return if liquidity is introduced to the system.
If users don’t foot Eskom’s bill, the state will have to Over the next few months, the government, the ruling party and its alliance partners will face one of their most challenging economic tests. Decisions will have to be made around electricity price increases that will have far-reaching implications, not only for the financial viability of Eskom, but for the security of power supplies and consequent effects on economic development and growth.
