What are the Portfolio Committees and Special Interest Groups, and how are they governed?
Portfolio Committees

COMENSA’s portfolio committees are responsible for:
  1. Developing COMENSA policy, guidelines and implementation frameworks in specific areas of the professional development of coaching and mentoring (e.g. ethics; standards of professional competence), recommending these to COMENSA’s Executive Committee, and implementing them once approved by ExCo.
  2. Advising ExCo on specific areas of COMENSA’s internal management (e.g. strategic purpose), and implementing ExCo policy decisions on these issues.

After COMENSA’s first national AGM in October 2006 the portfolio committees were formally re-constituted, and cover the following portfolios (although not all portfolio committees are active):
  • Strategic Purpose.
  • Ethics.
  • Supervision.
  • Membership Criteria and Standards of Competence (MCSCC).
  • Research and Definitions.
  • Constitution and Section 21 Company.
  • Membership Administration.
  • Marketing and Membership Promotion.
  • Website.

Special Interest Groups

In addition to the portfolio committees, provision has been made for the establishment by COMENSA members of Special Interest Groups (SIGs), which are forums for discussion of policy issues relevant to particular groups or categories of member (e.g. executive coaches, mentors). SIGs currently include the following:

  • Corporate User SIG.
  • Executive Coaching SIG.
  • Life Coaching SIG.
  • Mentoring SIG.
