VUCA Essentials

VUCA is an acronym used to describe the Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity of general conditions and situations. These words aptly define the world that we live in and the state of our current world of work.

The VUCA Essentials Qualification equips delegates with the essential skills needed to thrive in the VUCA world of work.

Leaders (of self and others) must be able to collaborate, communicate and solve problems – skills developed mainly through social and emotional learning. Combined with traditional skills, this social and emotional proficiency will equip individuals to succeed in the evolving digital economy.

The qualification combines theoretical knowledge and practical workplace learning, both of which must be completed successfully to attain competence.

Leading in a VUCA World

This leadership development qualification aims to equip leaders with the skills they need to lead in a VUCA world.

Rapid, constant, and disruptive change is the norm, and what succeeded in the past is no longer a guide to what will succeed in the future. Twenty-first-century managers simply don’t (and can’t!) have all the right answers.

To cope with this new reality, companies are moving away from traditional command-and-control practices and toward something very different: a model in which managers give support and guidance rather than instructions, and employees learn how to adapt to constantly changing environments in ways that unleash fresh energy, innovation, and commitment.

The role of the manager, in short, is becoming that of a coach. More and more companies are investing in training their leaders as coaches. Coaching has become integral to the fabric of a learning culture – a skill that all managers need to develop and deploy. An effective manager-as-coach asks questions instead of providing answers, supports employees instead of judging them and facilitates their development instead of dictating what has to be done. A manager-as-coach is able to ask questions that spark insights in the other person. It is about unlocking your people’s potential to maximise their own performance. The manager-as-coaches has mastered two parts of the leadership process—imparting knowledge and helping others discover it themselves—and they can artfully do both in different situations.

The qualification combines theoretical knowledge and practical workplace learning, both of which must be completed successfully to attain competence.

The Creative Brain

The world is seeing more disruption than ever before! There is an urgent need for organisations to change and adapt; quickly and often. Add to this an unexpected event such as the COVID-19 induced worldwide recession of 2020 – 2021. If companies do not reinvent themselves and the way they do business, they may not survive!

The heavy processes associated with traditional change management are no longer helpful. In an ever changing world, organisations are fundamentally rethinking their product and service offerings, reinventing their supply chains, looking at large scale organisational restructuring and digital transformation.

Employees must acquire practical skills that will enable them to innovate at work. In the new world, each one of us is an entrepreneur that must be able to apply a lateral lens to the innovation challenges presented to us on a daily basis. We need to learn how to apply innovative thinking to desired business outcomes.

When you look at your business through the eyes of your customer, what do you see? This is what a design thinking approach to business is all about – creating ideas to address customers’ unique needs and desires. The world is viewed through a human-centric lens.

We must go beyond thinking about the product or service itself and ask what the human need is behind what is being offered. This deeper level of thinking is central to entrepreneurs and businesses that want to generate bold and innovative ideas. A business is successful if it adequately serves people by providing a solution to their needs.

Fundamental changes in the way we do business, consumer behaviour, supply chains and routes to market are knocking companies off balance. Companies need to adopt agile ways of working and innovate in order to out-manoeuvre uncertainty. They need to address current disruptions and to repurpose and reshape the way they operate.

The Design Thinking approach is an iterative process that helps us to understand our target market, challenges our own assumptions and redefines challenges and helps us find alternative strategies and solutions, that might not be instantly apparent with our initial level of understanding. It is a solution-based approach to solving problems, a way of thinking and working as well as a collection of hands-on methods

Coach Activator

Coach Activator is for people who coach as part of their leadership role or individuals with private practices. It activates the unique coach within, whilst building the capacity to hold a professional and ethical coaching space.

In intimate and strength-based group sessions, participants learn and practice key coaching skills, explore their niche, work with any personal blocks or challenges and find a coaching style that feels empowering and relevant. The groups are deliberately small to ensure relevance to each participant’s requirements and niche. The process is responsive to the style and needs of the participants in each group and there is lots of coaching practice and feedback. It is deep, intensive and hands-on.

The five-month programme uses COMENSA’s behavioural standards as its core and explores:

  • contracting, planning, structure and models
  • how to create vital shifts
  • finding your unique approach and style
  • coaching theory (made practical and applicable to individual context) interwoven with application
  • reflection and self awareness
  • professional conduct and practices.

Participants coach three external clients for at least 3 sessions each during the programme. In addition, there are in-group sessions observed and critiqued by an experienced coach. There is group and individual mentoring/supervision, reflection and documentation.

Throughout the course we build towards a portfolio of evidence. The approach is supportive and the guided development continues after the workshop is complete. This has become one of our most popular courses with rave reviews.

“This was such a life altering course. I would not change a thing. I feel much more confident than I did when I started out. I feel empowered. The facilitator is a powerhouse of information. She makes the learning environment a safe place, like a warm blanket. I would definitely recommend others to take this course. It was all in all a phenomenal experience. Thank you so much.” Bronwyn Partridge Team Manager – Private Broking, Aon South Africa (Pty) Ltd

“This has been totally brilliant! I loved the small intimate group (via zoom); the facilitator’s ability to blend theory and practical sessions – holding our active interest throughout; the constant support and encouragement as we developed our skills and overcame our fears and the inspiration gained from watching (and hearing about) the facilitator’s practice. Her wealth of knowledge and experience is incredible. She is able to talk openly about her own journey and how she has tackled various coaching situations and challenges. She is engaging and enthusiastic as a facilitator, and is truly inspirational.” Lynne Temple, coach in private practice

“This course gave me the tools to confidently approach potential coaches and add value to them through coaching. The facilitator was fantastic, she was aware and totally present at each session. She taught me so much, I could not have asked for a more perfect facilitator. She challenged and encouraged us throughout the process.” Audrey Husayihwevu; Treaty Executive, Reinsurance Solutions

Introduction to Mentorship

 Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.”— …

Becoming a mentor is a great privilege. You finally have an opportunity to share what you know with someone what wants to know what you know… you know… ?  You get the opportunity to allow another person to see the hope within themselves.

Coach John Wooden once said: Big things are only accomplished through the perfection of minor things. Someone also said:  it is the small things that make the big difference!

I believe that mentoring often involves telling people what they need to hear, rather than what they want to hear. When you are able to be humbly honest with someone about a situation with which you have personal experience, you are offering the most valuable gift of all.

And a mentor provides this gift by listening, communicating, asking questions, provided opportunities to learn, guiding, giving feedback and checking the progress of the process.

All this is what you will learn in the mentoring course.  You will learn

·        What characteristics a good mentor must hone and develop;

·        What roles mentors play;

·        What mentors can an cannot do, must and must not do, should and should not do – you will be mentored in all of this!

You will learn how to set up mentorship programmes for your organisation or company.

You will also learn how to set up a mentoring relationship with a mentee.  This involves setting up structures to measure the success of your programmes and plans.

You will learn how you as a mentor (The expert) can provide valuable input into the professional life of a novice (the mentee). Your input as a mentor can be instrumental in determining where the mentee will end up one day. And here you will learn how to

·        Communicate well

·        Listen well

·        Ask good questions

·        Have interesting conversations

·        Give constructive feedback

·        Deal with difficult situations

… all while doing something that you could be proud of – sharing what you learned in the university of life.

This course will guide you through the phases in the mentoring cycle, from where you decide to be a mentor, to finding the right mentee, to setting up the paperwork, deciding on goals, getting on with the learning and then evaluating the success at the end of it all.

This is a very exciting course!  It will put you way ahead of most people who want to become a good mentor.

An added benefit of this course is that it is registered and approved by COMENSA, short for Coaches and Mentors in South Africa.  Professional alliance is very important in the service industry.  Not only is the course COMENSA approved, it also gives you the opportunity to register yourself as a member of COMENSA and make use of the many other benefits that they offer to Life Coaches and Mentors all over the world.

Introduction to
Mentorship

“Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.” — …

  • What characteristics a good mentor must hone and develop;
  • What roles mentors play;
  • What mentors can and cannot do, must and must not do, should and should not do – you will be mentored in all of this!

You will learn how to set up mentorship programmes for your organisation or company.

You will also learn how to set up a mentoring relationship with a mentee. This involves setting up structures to measure the success of your programmes and plans.
